Scholastic Sprints History
The Scholastic Sprints was founded at
Three Rivers Rowing Association in April 1992 to give Pittsburgh high school crews a chance to race against local scholastic crews early in the sprint racing season.
In 1999, because the race had grown in popularity and river conditions were unpredictable, the race was moved from the Allegheny River to Lake Arthur in
Moraine State Park. The racecourse at Lake Arthur is perfect for sprint racing, affording spectators a nearly complete view of the race from start to finish.
More than a thousand parents, relatives, and friends cheer their favorite crews across the finish. The Pittsburgh Scholastic Sprints has grown to be one of the most popular high school races in the Mid-West region.
